Pioneers are a very studied and remembered group by historians. Lewis and Clark have been commemorated time and again, and have been recognized of their contributions and discoveries in classrooms around the country. Many similarities can be drawn between Lewis and Clark and Joseph Nicollet. Nicollet explored much of the Midwest and was the first to make maps of this area.

B. The Memory Group(s) behind your monument:
The memory groups of the Nicollet Tower is primarily the city of Sisseton.

3. Upstream - The person or thing to be commemorated by your monument:
Joseph Nicollet is the person being commemorated in this monument, although I suspect that the scenic terrain of the area is also being recognized.

4. Establishment of the Monument:
The Nicollet Tower was established in 1991. It was spearheaded by Harold Torness.

5. Downstream: Interpretation and subsequent developments pertaining to your monument.
Some sources say that Harold Torness was inspired to build the Nicollet Tower after readingJoseph N. Nicollet on the Plains and Prairies. I would like to find out if there were any other inspirations for the monument and its location.

Good, you've got a start on this. It looks to me like the material you have under background below is actually what you intend to use as your lead, though. II.A. should be a historiographic section--interpretations of historical monuments, collective memory.

III-IV. Start arranging sub-points under these sections.

V. This material goes above, where you discuss establishment of the monument. Here you talk about things after the monument is established.
