B. Thesis- The monument found in Kindred, ND to the Spanish-American War was established by a community proud of its service members; however, while the community is still proud of its citizen soldiers, the importance of this particular monument has dwindled with time.
II. Background
A. Historical Monuments and Collective Memory: The dedication of this monument was an occasion that drew over a thousand people including the Governor, a Senator, a college President, and several veterans to the small town of Kindred. Today little is known about it by those living in or near Kindred and even less is known by those living outside of the immediate area.
